The Chamber of Deputies received a visit from U.S. congressmen.
In the context of strengthening bilateral relations, a group of national deputies who make up the Foreign Affairs and Worship Commission of the Lower House held a meeting in the Delia Parodi Room of the Legislative Palace.

To promote inclusive inter-American dialogue based on continental solidarity, cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, the Chamber of Deputies welcomed a delegation of U.S. congressmen, led by Derek Luyten, Executive Director of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP).

The House Democracy Partnership (HDP) is a bipartisan House committee working to promote responsive and effective government and strengthen democratic institutions by assisting legislatures in emerging democracies.

In this regard, Derek Luyten, head of the Delegation, considered that, in relation to "the economy, democracy, and security," "there are countless ways in which the United States and Argentina can and should work together." "We in Congress believe that the role of the Legislatures is intrinsic in all of these aspects," he emphasized.

He also noted that "our governments have a long history of working together," and therefore called for "continuing on that path."

In line with his predecessor, Rob Allison, Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina, emphasized that "this visit comes at a perfect time," since, he emphasized, "Argentina is going through a situation where the search for consensus and joint solutions prevails."

Regarding bilateral relations, the United States is a key trading partner for Argentina, and our country therefore wishes to continue working together to strengthen the bilateral agenda, which is primarily based on trade, investment promotion, scientific and technological cooperation, climate and environmental action, cultural exchange, human rights, regional peace and stability, among others.

For his part, the president of the Chamber of Deputies' Foreign Affairs and Worship Committee, National Representative Fernando Iglesias (PRO), stated that "the United States is an extremely important country for our country." In that regard, he expressed: "We believe that Argentina needs to reestablish international relations with the entire world, and particularly with democratic countries."

Representative Iglesias proposed two areas of cooperation with the United States: one economic and the other political. "Argentina needs capital to reinvent itself," he emphasized.

He also proposed "reviving the possibility of joining the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)," which has been "stuck since 2005." "Entry into the multilateral agreement will be an important precedent for continuing the discussion of other block agreements," the legislator affirmed.

Meanwhile, Representative Juliana Santillán Juárez Brahim (LLA) stated that the current government's intention is to "open Argentina's doors to the capitalist world" and asserted that "the United States is considered a flagship for Argentina, as it is a model country in the development of capitalism."

Likewise, the second vice president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Worship stated: "We are beginning to engage with those sectors of politics and the private sector that share our goal of combating poverty."

The meeting was attended by National Representative Santiago Santurio (LLA); Melina Torus, Suyay Mathiu, and Vanina Montes de Oca from the Parliamentary Diplomacy Directorate of the Chamber of Deputies; and Adrián Pagan, Parliamentary Director General of the lower house.

Also present were advisors to national deputies belonging to different parliamentary blocs: Diego Quinteros (Fernando Iglesias-Pro); Mercedes Piscitello (Silvia Lospennato-Pro); Luciana Tito (Santiago Cafiero-Union for the Homeland); Lucrecia Gordillo (Mercedes Llano-La Libertad Avanza); Juan Cruz Martinez (Juliana Santillán Juárez Brahim-La Libertad Avanza); Francisco Tomassino (Santiago Santurio-La Libertad Avanza); Luisina Duclos (Margarita Stolbizer-We Make Federal Coalition); and Juan Zapiola (Eduardo Valdés-Union for the Homeland).
